28 is the new 5

For Brett's birthday on Friday, we celebrated in true Brett fashion.
Like a kid.
......
Brett's ability to enjoy things like a kid is one of his most endearing qualities.
He makes anything fun.
...
So....
In the true spirit of Brett...we went to the zoo to celebrate.
I wasn't all that sure that Jack would be very thrilled by it...but I was 100% certain Brett would!
Jack found more entertainment by looking at his reflection in the glass cages than by seeing the actual animals inside.
He took the carousel very serious.
As you can see...
He didn't break this expression once until it came to a stop.
We caught a bit of rain while we were there...but it cooled things off...and it was perfect!
Not impressed.
The peacocks really did it for Jack.
As you can see...he was more interested in his thumb.
...
Reflection? Bingo.
...
He rather enjoyed tossing food to the swans.
...
Hogle Zoo Creatures:
Note the Rhino... I had a brief standoff with him after I opened my umbrella.
This was him staring me down and getting ready to charge.
Brett's convinced the fence wouldn't have saved me.
I think the rhino happened to enjoy my oblivious tra-la-la-ing.
...
Here we are standing at the huge elephant statue.
It plays "Pop Goes the Weasel" and on the "POP" part mist squirts out of the elephants trunk.
This is just moments after the "POP" happened and me, being the calm and cool person I am, screamed and jumped in hysterics.
I absolutely scared Jack to death.
He might have hated me at this point...
..
until we found him this water feature to play in.
Animals are going to have to step up their game to win Jack's affection over this next time.
...
Here we are on the train, Jack's concentration face resumed.
I'm not going to lie... Jack smelled a little like an animal by the this part in the day.
...
All in all it was a perfect way to spend the first part of the day...just the 3 of us and the zoo.
Fun was had by all.
...
Next, it was home for a much needed nap.
Then, we met up with some of the fam at In 'N Out for some grub, and then back to our house for more fun.
...
We had a delish ice cream bar, opened presents, and were supposed to have a water party outside...but torrential rain kind of got in our way of those plans.
...
Good thing Brett really is a kid at heart because he still set up the water slide and the kids (and some shameless adult...cough cough) played on it during the storm.
Annie definitely got some better picts of this portion of the party. I was too busy bombing it down the slide.
...
Then, it was inside to warm up.
Jack and Max spent a good portion of the evening bathing it up.
It truly was a day of fun.
.......
Quite fitting for both of my children!

Lucky for me...

these two could be twins.
Brett and Jack,
(since they always check my blog)
I'm really glad I have 2 of you.

On and On

...
It feels like I've been incredibly busy lately.
My brain has never been much of a calm place.
Constantly moving, thinking, analyzing...etc.
...
I've done a whole lot of running around as of late...and most afternoons I feel like doing this for about a solid month:
...
While running early yesterday morning, I was feeling particularly reflective. It wasn't one of those "turn- on-the- rage- music- runs" but rather a mix of slow, calm music.
I had a jumble of thoughts...
...
classroom odds and ends to prepare...
i want to go on a trip...
I miss my grandpa...
mom & dad's dogs need to be fed...
my mom should never be allowed to go out of town...
what should we do with our landscaping...
i need a haircut...
how bad will Jack hate me when he gets a little brother or sister?...
(NOT an announcement by the way. Just a permanent thought in my mind since approximately 32 seconds after Jack was born)
5 days until Friday Night Lights season 4 comes out on DVD and I get to finally watch it...
is it really August already?...
side aches blow...
... razors, tin foil, q-tips, and other random grocery list items...
...
And on
And on
And on.
////
This is my brain.
...
Sometimes I wish I had nothing to do.
Nothing to worry or think about.
But, I came to a realization on this profound run of mine.
Every single thing that keeps me busy/stresses me out/ occupies my mind is a blessing,
not a curse.
Behind every tiring, worrisome, or even mundane thing in my life is a gift, not a burden.
......
At least I have money to go to the grocery store.
I have a house to clean and not a cardboard box.
I miss people because I had them to love in the first place.
I get to have my own sweet baby as mine, even if he's growing up too fast.
I get to do a job that I love for a measly 8 hours a week (who does that, really?) and leave Jack with the best grandparents in the world.
...
And on.
And on.
And on.
......
......
Complaining is for the birds.
What a waste of time.
......
....
Costco runs, poopy bums, weeds, and all...
I have a good life.
......
......
I think me and the Dalai Lama should do lunch tomorrow.
Come to think of it... they do kind of look alike!

Jack in a Box

...
More entertainment with dad...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
Pop goes the weasel!
I seriously don't know what to do with this kid.
He's really hard to make happy.
Little weasel.

Split Screen Bees Game

We were invited to go the Bees Game last night with some of Brett's friends and had tickets in a suite from a connection with Brett's work.
It's pretty much the only way to take a baby to a baseball game, and we had a really great time.
Jack quite enjoyed himself and the disturbing amount of sugar he consumed while we were there.
...
We were in this exact same suite one year ago...and here's a little split screen mug shot of Jack kickin' it at the ball park with a one year difference.
August 2009
August 2010
He looks so big! I swear by next year's Bee's visit, he'll have a beard.
...
///
In an effort to get Jack to stay still outside of the suite for 3 seconds, we gave in to the old Dum Dum trick.
He definitely poured his heart, soul, and 100% of his attention to eating this sucker.
The gigantic bib of drool all over his shirt from the sucker was a particularly nice touch.
As if this face needed any more of a nice touch.
Can't stand it.

Easy, Earth. Easy.

Words cannot express how much I love a summer thunderstorm.
......
The one that Jack and I sat through an hour ago did not disappoint.
......
The sky got all dark and my house was all gloomy and Jack kept hiding in inconspicuous places until I came to find him.
......
It was a grand old time.
......
Then, the real storm hit.
Sorry...did I say storm? I meant typhoon.
......
The only thing Jack would leave the window for was to suck his thumb.
......
It was intense.

Resolution

I've been a crappy blogger this summer.
...
There.
...
I said it.
...
I definitely lost my blogging mojo somewhere in between trips to the pool, family partying, and putting a yard in.
...
I didn't really care until I looked at Jack today and realized, my baby is getting big.
I looked back at some old videos of him and could hardly remember him being so little.
...
I decided to cure the lump in my throat by promising myself that I'd take more pictures, videos, and tend to the blog some more.
Oh...and turn off the sappy sentimental Pandora station I have playing.
Sniff. Sniff.
......
I'd love to get my act together and have a post every day.
Maybe just a snapshot from the day.
Or a quick thought.
...
Or not.
...
Here's to hoping and a fresh new start with this...
.........
......
I came home from golfing the other night to these pictures.
...
This is what happens when Brett's in charge.
Jack plus dad plus dirt minus an OCD mom equals bliss.
