Jack Turns 7!

Well, we officially have a 7-year-old on our hands!

Jack getting older almost blows my mind more than any of the kids, because it seems like not that long ago that he was our one and only baby.  But, in the same breath... it seems like a lifetime ago that we didn't have nine million kids, so....

Anyway... I mentioned a few things about Jack in his Kindergarten post a little bit back, but some things that have remained constant in his seven years of life are:
* Star Wars...everything.
* Lego...everything.

* He is just about the sweetest little thing mug on the planet.

* He is one in a million in his preferences and his interests.  Really... what kid knows more about Walt Disney (who he desperately hopes is really cryogenically frozen) than say, Mickey Mouse?  What kid treats visiting the cemetery as a REWARD?  What 7 year old kid watches the behind the scenes footage of DVD's and wants to make movies and be an actor? What little boy sings Phantom of the Opera in the car so passionately that I swear I'm gonna make millions off of him when I finally get it on film?  The list of Jack's interesting hobbies and interests could go on for days.

* He still sucks at eating.

* He sleeps like a champ...still naps a lot of the time :)  1st Grade might really screw us over next year.

* He is as creative and particular as they come.   He likes things a certain way.  Really likes it.

But, at 7 years old... there are plenty of new and exciting facets to Jack's life:

* He is a great little ball player!  Basketball, soccer, and baseball have all been fun highlights of this year in Jack's life.  He enjoys them all, and has done well in each one.

* Minecraft is a new obsession.  And, we all know when Jack has an obsession...hold on tight!

* Jack not only loves Phantom show tunes, but will sing along to many gems in the car.  He's got his own unique playlist in the car (ex: "Take Me to Church"), and his tune and perfect pitch is uncanny.

* He reminds me so much of myself as a kid in school.  Such a rule follower.  So serious, but funny when it's appropriate.  Pretty much like Tucker (and Brett as a kid)... or not.

* He is as curious as they come and asks approximately 30,000 questions every day.

* He is tender hearted and so afraid of being in trouble or someone being mad at him.  He'll say sorry for something you got after him for like 6 hours after the fact...even if it was so small, like "Jack- don't forget to throw away your wrapper."

* He is so dramatic that it is hilarious and awesome.  When he gets frustrated (often...the plight of a perfectionist!), it's a real scene to behold!

* He has grown up a TON... and is becoming so independent. An awesome big brother!

And, there is Jack.  In a nutshell.
Which is impossible to do.
So, that actually barely scratched the surface.

Now onto the actual birthday documentation!

The night before his birthday, we gathered with the Wankier side at Burgess Park (Jones' were planning a separate summer party later in the month).

It was hot and wonderful...and Jack was so happy to have his cousins around.
His "creeper" cake was a highlight.

He even tried some! What? Cake on your birthday!?!? SHOCKING!
Don't let the black frosting stained smile fool you.. he hated it.

He was happy to move on to present opening, and he made a haul as usual!

Sam and Tucker were right on deck to support his present opening efforts.

We played baseball into the evening, and it was a dream.

Then home, to get ready for the big day!!

One day, I'll learn not to buy so much!

The boys woke up as excited as they come... in fact- Jack was up at about 4 am complaining about his excited tummy keeping him awake.

We finally caved at 7:00 and there was no looking back!

Lego mania!

Minecraft mania!

His 800 toys kept him preoccupied through the morning, and then we were off to the pool to celebrate some more!  The Ross' and the Griffin's met us for some nuggets and swimming, and it was Jack's perfect idea of how to ring in the big number SEVEN.

It was Russ' first outdoor swimming experience, and as you can tell.. he absolutely hated it! :)

That night, when Brett got home, Jack decided rather than go to a movie- he'd rather have a Lego party and put together some of his new sets.  So... we did just that...

I ran to Rubios and got his favorite kid's meal there...and we built away from then onto the end of the week!

(Just an *idea* of the magnitude of birthday Lego building...)

I can already tell that I'm going to need to start resting up for number EIGHT already!!
