Like with most things in his life, Jack is very particular about his music preferences.

He can literally thumb through my entire iPod, and every time he will pick out the exact same songs. Not only will he pick them out- he insists on listening to them roughly 900 times before we can move on to the next song to exhaust. It's not uncommon either for Jack to refuse a live version or cover of the exact same song. This kid definitely knows what he likes!

If only mix CD's were still the rage...Jack would make a killer one for the 2 year old crowd.

Well, here I am.

Nearly one month since my last post... and the blog guilt is back.

It may have something to do with my sister (and most dedicated blog follower) Annie telling me she's written off my blog. Nooooo!

Or, perhaps it's the fact that she made a super valid point that if I don't write stuff Jack is doing down...I am going to forget.

....

Seems impossible...but, I know I will.

...

My poor 2012 blog book will be like 3 pages if I don't snap out of this funk I'm in!

...

I have a new motivation to post... a new tactic.

With my job writing... I do the research, map it out, write a long involved post, edit it, re-edit it, upload it, edit it 99 more times.... No wonder I'm burned out when I think "blog." So- instead of this approach, I'm going to bust out some short and sweet ones...and I'll prepare you now... they'll almost 100% be about Jack (oh, there's a switch!). I could probably handle a post or two about other goings on in there as well... but, with baby under a month 1/2 away... I've got to let Jack have the spotlight before he's got to share it! He is in such an adorable and hilarious phase right now-- it really is a shame not to document it! Here are some photos Jack posed for all on his own the other night just to prove

a) how amazing his jammies are, and

b) that he's still not only cute but one funny little terd, too!

So here we go... day #1 of back on track! And I'm going to vow not to include "I've sucked at blogging lately" in another post for at least 6 months!

Things around here as of late have been good. Busy. Fast.

...

It seems like even with my girthy state only get more girthier (that seems to be a perfectly ugly way of describing my current level of attractiveness), and when time typically would seem slow... things just continue to move along in fast motion.

...

I recently had to switch OB doctors because of our lovely insurance...and it turns out I'll be delivering at Timpanogos now instead of American Fork. I cried for like 2 months...2 months ago...and now I'm over it, and all is good. I had to go in for a little check-a-roo a while back because baby was doing straaange things to my body...and I got a big boy ultrasound and can see his little profile so clearly. Ooooh. He better have juicy cheeks. That's all I can say.

All is well with baby... and me.

Jack has been a champ in his new bed. A couple of really early morning awakenings and 2 hour naps versus 4... but, 3 weeks into it... he's back on track with very little effort.

His room is all done...and he thinks it's pretty snazzy.

We love us some Eric Carle.

...

Brett is busy keeping up with all of the room renovations between Jack and baby. If he's not hanging nursery lights...or putting cribs back up (man that made me feel like my babies are close together)... he's working on the addition to the bonus room. This room is Brett's brain child... and it is amazing. There is a small play area with a window (to the left), a hallway and stairs (middle) that lead to a slide (which he made), that comes out into the bonus room (on the right). You can bet your little boots I will be showing the complete version when it is ready.

It is something to behold.

Baby preparations are in full swing. Still no name (I'll take suggestions). But, his room is getting closer. It helps when I work for a baby bedding company. Crib bedding, lights, blankets, and more... we're pretty much set.

Growing Up

.. We've been preparing for this whole process for a couple of weeks now...and I had it on my calendar to attempt the switch later this week. ...

After shuffling furniture, and getting things ready... I decided last night was the night. ...

I think I cried for 4 hours straight yesterday afternoon as Jack took his nap. ...

Thanks, pregnancy. ...

... I've been secretly (or not so secretly) dreading this day for a couple of reasons. ...

...

First, let me tell you about Jack as a sleeper. ...

Simply put... Jack is the sleeper. ...

2 1/2 years old, and sleeping 12 hours each night + a 3-4 hour nap EVERY day... he's pretty much as good as they come. ...

When it's time to sleep... Jack takes the reins and knows just what to do. ...

No fuss. ...

... Now...why would I rock this boat? ....

... Oh yes... baby #2 needs a place to crash too, I suppose... and 2 cribs just isn't happening in this house. ...

...

Jack sooo loves his crib. He always has. And my ultra sensitive, ultra sentimental, hormonal state kept telling me that taking away the crib was like taking away Jack's ability to breathe. ...

...

Dramatic enough for you?... ....

...

The truth is, while these thoughts were real issues to consider, I think the real deal is that I knew with Jack leaving the crib behind, a part of my baby would be gone forever. ...

As hard as I try to act like Jack is still an infant, the fact is he is a full fledged little boy. This transition meant accepting a new little one on the way, and the dreaded word...change. ...

... So..as Jack's crib days have faded... so have my days of dreaming that he'd be tiny forever. However, as I see him growing and reaching milestone after milestone, I couldn't be more excited for all of his growing up days. Each phase replaces an old one with what feels like an even better one. Maybe one day I'll fully accept that reality instead of resisting everyone getting older all of the time! ...

Truthfully, now that the anxiety of making the switch is over, I also feel a renewed excitement for baby #2, and am so grateful to have him coming to fill our now vacant crib. ...

I gotta tell you... sometimes being a parent is for the birds. ......

But-we did it!

It's nearly 9:00 the next morning, and he is still sawing logs from his first night in a big boy bed.

Christmas 2011

Let's face it.

My picture taking and blog-umenting over the holidays has been pretty weak.

Can we blame it on the pregnancy?

Here are a few glimpses, at least, into Christmas Eve through Christmas.

We stuck with tradition and spent Christmas Eve with the Jones clan up in Alpine. Tiffany and her kids are in town, and Adam and Michelle + kids came down for the evening as well.

The annual acting out of the Christmas Story took place...

and as usual... our little family was by far the most reverent.

My abnormally GORGEOUS sisters-in-law. My fellow shepard and our narrator. Angel Ethan. Soren, Adam, and Bjornn were quite wise. .... ... ... ...

After the nativity, and a delicious meal, we opened a few Christmas Eve gifts, and the kids were all treated to new jammies.

My child is the 18 year old on the front row, right. ...

We got home just in time for Santa to come and leave some loot.

Christmas morning, Brett and I woke up and had our own gift exchange, while Jack slept and slept and slept. ...

... After getting ready, we could hardly handle waiting for him to see his presents any longer, so just before 9:00... we barged into his room to find a little boy who had absolutely NO interest in waking up!

It took a little time for him to shake the grogginess...

He even hid from his presents for a minute... ...

But then- he broke loose and NEVER looked back all day! ...

He was gasping for like an hour straight!

We stayed at my parents until the late afternoon, and after my mom fed us an amazing spread AGAIN, we were off to Alpine for some more Jones time.

At this point...my weak attempts at taking pictures were non-existent... but we had a wonderful evening of more presents, MORE FOOD, games, and talking.

Though he had some moments of being completely overwhelmed...

Jack survived the overstimulation of Christmas beautifully.

It seems like every year I realize more and more just how lucky we are to be able to be with both families every Christmas. We had a wonderful day... hope yours was just as merry!...

Zoo Lights 2011

Thanks to my mom and dad, we took a little field trip with the fam to Hogle Zoo for our 2nd Annual visit to Zoo Lights!

I was so thankful for this chance to get out and do something to kick myself into the Christmas spirit!

We bundled up, and were off.

Unfortunately, the Ross clan sat this one out...and they were sorely missed.

We had some camera issues...but managed to snap some highlights of the night.

Santa found himself a little hotty this year...Mrs. Claus was one young granny rocking some hip blond (not white) ringets. So modern. Hank and Max went first to show Jack the ropes...

But, he was not convinced, AT ALL!

He sat there long enough to put on a brave face... didn't cry...but rocked the biggest frowner you've ever seen in your life.

... He nervously uttered "bye" when we walked away...and that was that! ... ...

The rest of our time was spent riding the carousel, seeing (a few) animals, checking out the lights, and watching Hank cart Jack up and down the snake slide 9,000 times.

Too damn cute.

Although, most of the time he prefers to call him "Max."

I'm focusing on relishing every day before that time comes, though,

Well... 20 weeks of pregnancy came a while back...and I finally started feeling human again.

Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was able to spend some time watching this little mug living, and moving inside me at our ultrasound...

Sickness. Worth it.

I truly had no preference as to the gender of this one going into our appointment, as I could see obvious pros with both.

As I was laying on the table, I felt a sigh...one of almost relief when the doctor said...

BOY!

Suddenly it felt like I had known forever. A boy. It immediately felt right.

...

That's not to say I won't be crossing fingers for a girl someday... but this time around... I couldn't be happier...especially because our little squirt looked healthy and perfect.

Let's be honest (and I don't mean to toot my own horn...but kind of)...

Yosemite

Finally!

I will continue our trip pictures!

The next couple of days of our vacation took place in Yosemite National Park.

We drove just over 3 hours from Brandon and DeEtte's house to a quaint little cabin where we would stay during our time at the park.

Yosemite was about 45 minutes from our condo, so we had our fair share of driving... but, the four of us made quite the combo for some good laughs!

My only regret about getting around to this post right now is that so many of the best pictures that we took as a group were taken on Brandon's camera and we haven't yet figured out the best way to share those. So, I'm promising myself that once I get them...I'll do another picture post with some more, non-phone picts (especially since I only have like ONE of the cutest one of our group...DeEtte!).

Now, if you thought Oprah and Gayle were convincing on this season during their camping trip to Yosemite...just you wait.

Oprah's got nothing on me.

By the end of this post...you'll be packing your walking stick and booking a flight!

I kind of originally planned to go here to humor Brett.

He really gets into this stuff.

However, it was hands down one of the most gorgeous places I had ever been!

Our first views driving into the park were remarkable, and we took about a thousand pictures until we realized the best was only yet to come. ...

Our first day, we didn't get to the park until the afternoon...and we were all a bit loco from the car ride. I think in this pictur we were probably imitating the 20-something park ranger blondes that we had just encountered.

Brett was aroused early when these two bucks put on a nice little show for us...

...

I was convinced they were just paid actors.

We took a little hike (ok..fine..a walk...but I was breathing hard) to this gorgeous spot, where Brett, Brandon, and DeEtte scurried up the rocks to the waterfall while I (the pregnant invalid) sprawled out on a rock.

We then took a little jaunt across the park to the Awahnee Hotel... a really cool old lodge where the Queen of England (ever heard of her?) and other notable people have stayed.

Brandon and I crashed while Brett and DeEtte stared at each other.

... The sun was then starting to set, and things were getting a bit chilly, so we utilized one last opportunity to soak in a really pretty spot.

There were the most darling houses just behind us... can you imagine looking out your window to this every night?

...

That night we gorged on some pizza and took it easy back at the condo.

...

The next day we started back to the park bright and early- and Brett had high hopes of getting at least one substantial hike in.

...

We drove about an hour through the park to Glacier Point, which was the most gorgeous drive of fall leaves. It lead us to the most impressive lookout point where we got a great view of the valley floor and the entire park.

Half Dome

After relishing in the absolute beauty for a while...and hyperventilating while watching a lady dangle her infant over the edge...

DeEtte and I decided to indulge the boys and told them to go on their much desired hike.

We knew it would be a few hours until they finished...but DeEtte was a great sport and the best company for my pregnant bones.

Brett and Brandon hiked down from Glacier point on the Panorama Trail about 8.5 miles, while DeEtte and I drove the car down, munched on chicken fingers, giggled like little girls in the gift shops, and pretended to hike.

...

This one's a doctor + scoutmaster Brett... I knew they'd make it down alive.

From what I hear, they had a wonderful time...even though Brett had a hard time walking for a week. DeEtte and I also had the best time chatting it up in such a gorgeous place. Our highlight of the day was buying these really awesome (most hideous ever made) t-shirts to commemorate the mighty hikers accomplishment. ...

I'm telling you... I've been pretty places... but Yosemite falls pretty close to the top!

I'm so glad I have an overly-zealous nature lover for a husband that gets me to these places that I end up loving.

It certainly didn't hurt having such amazing company. I don't think I've laughed that much in a looooong time! Thank you so much to Brandon and DeEtte for all they did to make our trip perfect, and for taking time away from their crazy lives!

Thank you to our parents for watching Jack for us, and calming my insane anxieties about leaving him! I think this trip just might have convinced me to do it more!!

Halloween 2011

A good indicator of the fun we had this Halloween would be the fact that Jack and I literally could not pull ourselves off the couch today!

I must have been more busy having fun than taking high quality photos...but, here's my best attempt.

Saturday night...us adult folk headed up for the 7th annual Evil Ball at the Red Lion.

This is no regular family party... but utterly entertaining!

This is a serious costume party... and everyone stepped it up...again!

Brett and I had hardly any time to come up with a costume... but pretty much hours before the big event...pulled this little gem together:

Monday brought Halloween.

Jack and I started out early going to Lucy, Isabel, and Hank's school for their costume parade.

I think Jack finally got the concept behind all of my efforts in dressing him up! ...

For the past few weeks, Jack has pretty much wanted NOTHING to do with any costumes I have shown him/bought him.

I 100% expected him to refuse wearing a costume, and to be totally unamused by trick-or-treating.

He 150% surprised me!

He LOVED wearing his costume (who knew?) and didn't peel it off until he hit the hay.

After I finished mourning Kim Kardashian's divorce announcement, we went over to Annie's for their annual Halloween bash, where we had yummy soup and got our trick-or-treat on.

Hank was already out getting his loot, and Max was feeling under the weather...but, Lucy and Isabel came out to show Jack the ropes.

Jack doesn't even like candy... but ringing doorbells and getting stuff put in his bucket was enough to sell him on the whole process!

He marched around the neighborhood for a good hour... happy as a clam!

It was by far our most fun Halloween as parents and Jack could not have been more darling.

but...when it comes down to it...

It was totally worth it!

San Francisco

This past week, Brett and I were lucky enough to take off for a few days to spend some time in Northern Cali.

Once I finally left...it was the best time! Preparing to leave Jack, however, almost killed my emotional little body. But we did it. And he was a happy, content little boy with his wonderful grandparents.

We flew in Thursday, and were able to start our weekend with Brett's brother Brandon and his wife DeEtte. They took us to a delicious restaurant in Napa, and then we stayed at their darling place in Vacaville. ...

...

Friday, our vacay-partners had to work, so Brett and I took the day all to ourselves to hit up San Fran. We had the best time...all on our own time.

...

The scoutmaster insisted on going to the John Muir Woods first, which I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about going because I knew we'd be spending the next few days in the Yosemite wilderness. But, I indulged. It was an excellent choice.

Absolutely one of the most gorgeous places I've ever seen.

Next, we drove into the city and ate lunch at Cliffhouse, overlooking the ocean on an absolutely gorgeous- perfect day.

... After a delish lunch, we headed to Golden Gate Park. Definitely not your typical park. This place was HUGE...with so many different areas and features. We stopped at the Japanese Tea Gardens, and then decided we were too cheap to pay the big bucks to go into every single venue....so I saluted...

and we were on our way to our next stop! ... ...

We drove a short way to the Golden Gate Bridge...and took a lovely little walk to the bridge.

We walked about half of the length of the bridge...and I freaked my freak over how high we were while Brett marveled at the construction.

Next, we drove the famous Lombard Street...

Then, we headed to Coit Tower where we saw unreal views of the city.

As if we hadn't done enough for the day...

We couldn't very well be in San Francisco without hitting up the Pier.

So we dragged our tired bones out to eat plenty of chocolate and ice cream...and to touch base with the Sea Lions.

The two of us + baby were one tired little family.

We headed back to Brandon and DeEtte's in the early evening, where we ordered in, and spent the night.

It was such a perfect day just hanging with Brett.

We saw so many awesome places, and had the best time together.

Canyoning

Sunday we took a nice little break from chaos and my overwhelmingly disgusting nausea to drive up AF canyon.

It was absolutely gorgeous...the leaves just starting to change...and an incredibly WARM October day.

I couldn't help but think back 2 years to a much colder October day of the exact week as we were bracing for Jack's surgery on his spine.

(oh my little squirt!)

2 years goes by in a flash and I will sure be happy tomorrow when we mark his official anniversary at home and happy. I'll take morning sickness any day over Primary Children's!

This outing I stayed behind the camera so as to spare us all of my green hue.

Ups and Downs

To say that the past 2 weeks has been a rollercoaster would be the understatement of the year.

Shortly after losing my sweet grandma, I got myself a new nephew.

Meet Sam:

Annie and Randy did a good job, let me tell you.

This little gem came at just the perfect time when we needed him most.

I want to steal him. Really.

He is perfection.

Just a few days after my grandma's funeral, and Sam's birth, we received news that our sweet neice Ella had passed away.

(See my previous post on Ella here).

Ella was never expected to make it past a few weeks old, and she defied all odds and nearly made it to her 2nd birthday. Brett and I quickly jumped a plane to North Carolina to be with Tiffany and her sweet family. This family has already been through so much, and the date of the funeral marked the 3 year anniversary of their little baby boy Carson's passing. I suppose the main comfort in the whole thing is knowing that this brother and sister are together.

If you can spare a prayer, or good thought for this family... please send it their way.

In the midst of such sadness and heartache, I've never been so thankful to have Jack. He keeps us laughing, and reminds me of how good life really is.

My Beautiful Grandma

When I was young, I spent a lot of my days writing letters to my grandma and anxiously awaiting her response in the mail.

We traveled together.

We made the most perfect cookies together (though she never tried the dough).

We shopped together.

...

We talked.

...

We laughed.

...

....

And last night, we had to say goodbye.

...

My sweet, sweet grandma Joanne passed away quite suddenly last night due to complications stemming from a gallbladder surgery earlier in the week. She has always been so strong. So present. The idea that she is not here anymore leaves such a void, it's hard to even know where to go from here. I have no doubt, however, that my grandpa,like always, pulled some strings to get her to join him.

It is only right for them to be together.

...

I already feel such a significant void, and there seem to be no words to fully describe my adoration for her or my feelings of great sadness at her loss.

Last September, we had a wonderful celebration of her 80th birthday, where I was able to write a letter to her. How grateful I am for that chance, and to be able to have my words and feelings about her written at a time where my mind wasn't so numb.

Here is that letter...tweaked a bit...suitable for today.

To My Dear Sweet Grandma,

I so vividly recall the days of my childhood when were pen pals and I often spent time writing to you. Always enthusiastic and anxious to be involved in my life, you wasted no time in responding to my letters. I don't think that I realized at the time that most children communicated with their grandparents in the form of letters. The only difference was that not only did we get to converse through the mail... you also lived nearby...and I was lucky enough to see you and do things with you on a regular occasion. I now know what a rarity that was, especially because not only were you close in proximity, but we were always close as friends as well.

I feel so blessed to have been able to share so many wonderful memories with you throughout my entire life. Making peanut butter cookies with a Hershey Kiss on top, countless shenanigans with Hayley, reading books, swimming at Riverside, bathroom breaks on the ski hill, traveling to Santa Fe, visiting you at Morris Travel, ballets, symphonies, lunch dates, BYU games, Manti trips, you and your crazy friends taking me to dinner when I lived in Cedar City, and so many many more.

Perhaps most vividly, I can, and will always recall your presence at every major (and minor!) event in my life. Your support of me has been unwavering, and not just in your presence, but in your constant affection, loving words, and through your outpouring encouragement towards me at every single stage of my life. You have always been a constant in my life, Grandma, and the past few years have really made me see just how much I have relied on that, and how grateful I am to have had it, and to know that will live on in me forever.

Through all of my experiences with you...and from simply observing you, I have learned so many powerful lessons. Your ability to laugh at yourself is something that has always been so endearing to me. A lost car in a parking garage, glue stick discoveries, and backyard bathroom breaks have your name stamped on them...and I will always adore you for it!

I always admired your strength in the face of trials. After looking back at your years of kidney transplants, and most recently your struggles with your eyesight, I fully realize now how you never let anything get in the way of you living life to it's fullest...even when you were entitile to sitting out. Your tenacity for life, for learning, and for being present in every moment set you apart from anyone I know. I always knew where you stood, and exactly what I could expect from you. If you had something to say...you said it. If you wanted to do something...you did it. If you didn't want to do something...you didn't. If you needed help...you asked. Never letting an opportunity pass you by...your drive and spirited personality were such an example to me of living a life of no regrets.

At times like these, I realize how unique our family truly is. I believe you and Grandpa were, and will always be, at the heart of our family, and it is because of you that we all have the powerful relationships that we do today. I genuinely thank you for providing opportunities for us all to be together, to express our love to one another in the form of a letter, poem, or by simply just being around for each other. Thank you for granting me so many experiences where I was able to get to know my cousins, aunts, uncles, self, and most of all- you.

Brett the Graduate Birthday Boy

Let's just pretend for a moment like I haven't completely abandoned personal blogging for like a month.

In all reality, we have had plenty going on...I have just been really awful at taking pictures of any it...and I'm just not ok with posting without pictures....blah...blah...blah.

GRADUATED!

No more night classes.

No more late night homework dates.

Let me just say... I know it's a big deal any time someone graduates from college.

However, as someone who graduated at 21, I will 100% tell you that Brett's journey was way harder and way more commendable that when I got my degree!

....

Sure...he took a year off here and there...

But- Brett has ALWAYS had a full time job during our marriage.

School for Brett consisted of night, weekend, and online classes.

On top of being a husband, dad, scout master, and go-to guy for EVERYTHING, he was dealing with term papers, finals, and sitting through class.

....

Considering Brett has held a position you typically get with his degree for 3 years now, it makes his endurance and commitment to get his degree all the more impressive.

...

He stuck with it.

Never complained...

(well sometimes he complained when I insisted that every paper be edited and re-edited 99 times).

...

And now he's done!

....

Halle-freaking-lujia!

Here's he is....

Mr. Bachelor's Degree in Technology Management- Construction Management Emphasis

with an Associates Degree in Construction Management on the side.

I couldn't be more proud of him.

He sets a good example, this one.

Who knows if it'll ever pay off... but- it sure says a lot about his character and finishing what you start!

That was my present to him yesterday for his birthday/graduation celebration!

I have never seen such joy on his face as playing with this gun all day.

He so earned it.

After he stopped making out with his rifle, Jack and I took Brett out for a breakfast, and then a round of golf.

Jack didn't let Brett out of his sight for .2 seconds all day.

Oh...and since I last blogged... Jack turned 21...get older!...

We had a lot of fun- tagging along with Brett at the golf course has definitely been a highlight of our summer.

After we got home...I started all of the preparations for Brett's big birthday/graduation celebration up at Burgess Park.

Brett was showered upon with support and generous gifts!

My parents gave him all sorts of accessories for his gun.

He scored some serious cash, books, golf balls, and golf passes.

His parents gave him plane tickets for a trip I have been secretly scheming (as part of my gift) to Yosemite in October .

Brett's brother and wife live in the area...and we'll be hanging with them, and hitting up San Francisco as well. Can't wait...but I'm already panicking about leaving Jack.

I need therapy.

All in all it was a really great day.

Outings Galore

So...it's time for a little late July-Early August update of our outings the past couple of weeks. A couple of Saturday's ago...Brett and I took Jack to Thanksgiving Point Farm Country. His favorite parts....the turkeys (?), feeding a goat, feeding the ducks, and playing in jail.

Bunnies....rock on!

... The weekend of the 24th, Brett and I organized a little Wankier to-do up AF canyon.

We all met up for s'mores and roasted Mambas.

We also brought along some bars of Ivory soap and plastic knives for everyone to do some (safe) carving. It was a total flashback to my childhood days up the canyon.

Thankfully, the scout master just happen to have a hammock in the back of the car.

He never ceases to amaze me with his randomness.

Brett's pirate ship has since been sent to the Smithsonian.

Jack was nothing short of a clump of dirt when we left.

Just this week, Annie and I had the genius idea of taking the boys to the zoo.

We headed out early to beat the heat... and to beat Annie going into pre-mature labor!

The boys were so good and had such a great time. And...we were able to keep Crusher from falling out of Annie's loins...so overall, it was a success!

When Brett's Away...The Kids Play

While the jolly scout master (Brett) was gone the entire week to Scout Camp- Jack and I had ourselves some serious cousin time!

Monday, we started the week with some tramp time and lunch with the boys and Annie at the Griffin abode. Jack was thrilled with their new bunk beds.

Later that night Jack and I went on a date with my dad to see Cars 2.

Tuesday, Lucy and Isabel were over bright and early to babysit during my tutoring session, and then the planning began for what was to be the Sleepover of '11. I had told the kids a while back that while Brett was gone...they could come stay the night with me. So...we headed off to the store to pick up some essential treats.

Jack was thrilled to finally have someone to share the car cart with!

Annie and the boys came over for lunch, and then- we separated for a brief while...until the troops re-arrived!

The kids were very sweet and patient while they waited for me to fill 5 very careful treat orders. It was Hank's first time sleeping away from Annie/Randy post-diabetes...so I was on careful watch...and practically had a carb calculator fastened to my belt!

After Annie picked up Max, and Jack was off in dreamland...us BIG kids started the real paaartay up in the bonus room!

We had an awesome combo of handstand contests, dance partying, jumping on the air mattress, and laughing at me doing somersaults!

There was plenty of stachetastic enjoyed as well...

After dissolving some witch fears, and passing the midnight mark, the kids were good for bed.

It might sound nuts having all these rats at my house for the night...but honestly... I loved every single second of it. They are all my best little pals and I got such a kick out of hanging with them and having them all to myself. They couldn't have been sweeter to me and each other. My sisters are definitely doing something right!

The next morning, Annie and Max rolled in about 8:30 and I made breakfast for everyone. The kids were still jumping around like maniacs even though I'm pretty sure they were running off of about 5 hours of sleep.

Jack particularly loved waking up to all of his cousin's still here...and cuddling with Annie and Crusher.

Thursday, we got in some more time with the Ross girls, and my mom and I took them with us to the Lindon Pool. They are the best little babysitters. They played with Jack on the slides and splashed with him to his little heart's content.

Needless to say...Jack was a bit pooped after it all!

Thank goodness for all of these little sweethearts+ their parents+ my parents who were such great company while Brett was away! We had a blast!

Happy Memories to Catalog in My Brain

.Last night we received an invite from my grandma and grandpa to come over and watch the American Fork Steel Days fireworks.

If you know my grandparents, you will know that this is not a chance to pass up.

We showed up at 9 pm, and were not only greeted by the most adorable 2 people in this world...but by yummy--perfect snacks and a gorgeous evening.

We had front row seats from their deck, and the fireworks were an impressive show!

Jack was a total nut...running a million miles an hour and keeping us all entertained.

...

I didn't get the greatest of pictures...but it's a night I don't want to forget.

Everything about it was perfect and I couldn't help but think how lucky I am to be able to jump in the car and be with my grandparents, siblings, and parents in no more than 5 minutes.

Not to mention my grandparents couldn't be more amazing and sweet.

4th of July Collage Mania

We had a great 4th of July weekend.

Saturday was our 7 year anniversary, so Brett took work off on Friday, and we took Jack golfing.

Later, Brett and I took off to stay in Park City for the night.

Annie and Randy so generously watched over Jack-man while we were away...and let's just say I'm surprised he came back home with us.

The Fourth started out with the guys playing golf...and then we all met up at my mom's for a BBQ.

(yes we were dressed very patriotic for the occasion)

Then, later in the afternoon, we made our way up to Alpine for more BBQ'ing and fireworks.

Later- Brett and I took Jack to the Thanksgiving Point fireworks.

He LOVE LOVED LOVED them!

It was lots of activity...too much food...and the best of company!

And I'm still tired from it all!

(Making 35 collages didn't help with that either.)

Rodeo and a Growing Boy

Last night was a whole family event at the Lehi Roundup Rodeo.

My grandpa would've loved it. ... ...

I wasn't so sure how Jack was going to do packed onto bleachers like sardines...but considering he was coming off of a 4.5 hour nap...he was in fine form and I'm so glad I brought him. It was so much fun (other than the dead baby bird that Jack found and threw...but that's another story I'm still dry heaving about)!

Forgive my blurry phone shots of the evening...there was way too much ruckus going on to focus on pictures. Plus I was hard at work pretending I was in Dillon, TX. (Friday Night Light fans?)

Jack made the rounds down the aisle throughout the night.

He was moderately interested in the animals.

He was, however, ridiculously interested in the tractors clearing the grounds, the train that kept passing by, Brett's face, the motocross performers, and a bag of licorice.

I couldn't have been happier that his sweaty little mug chose to sit on my lap most of the night.

That is a rarity when Brett is around. .......

Don't get me wrong, though.

There was plenty of loving Brett, too.

... I'm pretty sure he shoved at least 900 Mike N' Ikes in Brett's mouth throughout the night. Annie and General Grievous (Max) seeing whose mouth was bigger. .... Annie and I decided that there's just something about a cowboy. .... But...there's no way under the sun that our boys will be allowed to be rodeo cowboys. I found myself cringing in fear every time they went flailing around on a horse/bull. ...

Make plans to go to a rodeo this summer.

Trust me. It's a good time. ...

Now, in completely unrelated, but note worthy news....

...

Jack has made the doctor rounds this past week. First, we met up with Jack's spinal surgeon for a yearly post-op checkup on his back. It took all of 4 seconds for the doctor to look at Jack and determine that he's walking/moving just fine. So far so good with no anticipation of any future problems.

Phew.

I tell you what...after the year my family has had...you kind of have to expect the unexpected....especially when you're seeing a doctor!

Jack was cool as a cucumber.

Primary Children's aint got nothing on this kid.

Today, Jack had his 2 year checkup with the pediatrician. He was a bit leery of the women on staff...but was brave and calm with Dr. Weipert. He had one shot and took it like a champ and hasn't stopped saying "shot" since.

The Perfect Timing of Dads

Every day at our home, when 5:15 pm rolls around, we hear the blessed sound of the garage door opening. An instant energy fills the house with the first creak of the door. These are the sounds that say DAD IS HOME! It’s not that we haven’t enjoyed our prior daytime activities… but there’s just something about having Dad home that makes everything so much better. Not only is it another set of helping hands… but it’s more fun…more laughter….more excitement. It’s indulging in exhilarating activities that I find myself much too uptight to do…like digging in the dirt…and using all the couch pillows to make a fort. A breath of fresh air. That’s 5:15.

... ..... My hope is that this Father’s Day, in the midst of tools, ties, and gadgets galore…I can at least give our dad that 5:15 feeling that he makes possible for us to experience every single day.

Golfing Tweeners

Brett took Jack and I out to the golf course the other night.

It was spur of the moment...and a good call on Brett's part.

Jack was in ABSOLUTE heaven.

He got to have Brett.

He got to swing his own clubs and hit stuff (sometimes a ball).

Not only did he get to help drive the cart, but he got to play with the coolers of water, dig in dirt, and run to his little heart's content.

Just watching these two nuts kept me entirely entertained and happy

(other than itching my allergic eyes out of their sockets).

.... Just FYI: Brett never hits the ball in the sand. I think he was just trying to give Jack a chance to play in it....hmmmm

Sometimes it's like I'm looking directly at Brett when I see this mug.

Everything from the way he looks, moves, and plays, to the way he finds pure entertainment in just about any and everything!

It's pretty damn cute.

4 Days of 2

We had quite the time celebrating Jack's birthday this year.

4 Days of activity made for a great 2-year old initiation.

....

The festivities began on Friday (3 days before his birthday) because the Ross family was off to Disneyland over the weekend, and since they make up half of Jack's friends...we just had to make sure they could come.

We got a pavilion up at this new park in Alpine. It is amazing....and huge! There are several play areas, a splash pad, walking trails, tons of open space... and all in the most beautiful setting.

Jack absolutely lives to be outside.

Outside + cousins = one happy boy.

We ate pizza and ice cream treats and he was supported by many (as usual).

....

The guest list: Grandma Jackie & Grandpa Curt, Grandma & Grandpa Jones, Grandpa Sherm & Grandma Yvonna, Grandma Joanne, Annie, Randy, Hank, Max, Kate, Dan, Lucy, Isabel, Michelle, Adam, Bjornn, Liam, Soren, and Zetta.

The cake portion of the party was pretty much just for tradition's sake.

I knew Jack wouldn't eat it let alone dig into it...but, it was well worth the pomp and circumstance because his candle blowing was sheer entertainment. The breeze was a bit too strong for our lighter... but he didn't care.

He kept pretending to blow them out...and was just as happy.

.... Grandpa Curt stepped in to show us how it is done, and Jack finally got to blow out ONE candle for real.

He was proud as a peacock.

Saturday we took it easy and Jack got to fully play with his presents from his party.

We broke out the Pirate ship water table my mom and dad gave him, and I think he would've slept with it if we'd had let him.

Sunday evening, we went back up to the Alpine park (our new home away from home), and met my mom and dad and their dog, Dove.

Jack + outside + dog = happiest child on the planet.

He splashed around for a little ate some chips with Grandma Jackie.... and then with 110% attention watched Dove chase a tennis ball.

Jack was in the mood for a love affair with Grandpa Curt. He stayed nestled up to him like this for like 15 minutes.

Finally....on Jack's real birthday...we gave him our presents. ////

His new tool set makes him look even more like Brett.

It was an instant hit.. ...

He's very cautious.

(and adorable) ..He was quite mesmorized with his squirt guns and sidewalk chalk...

until we wheeled this bad boy around the corner.

He literally dropped everything (including his little jaw)...and got in it and stayed there for most of the morning.

He went back to playing with his other presents...as long as he was still in his new car.

Brett had to go to work, but our go-to pals were waiting in the wings to party it up with us.

Hank, Max, and Annie came rolling in for some water fun.

My mom and Grandma Joanne were there as spectators.

After some hard core playing, we ate a little Chick Fil-A, the boys played in the dirt (what is wrong with boys?), and followed up with a tub for all 3 of them.

...

We had just enough time to get a nap in before we met back up with Brett, the Griffins and my mom for Kung Fu Panda 2 later that night.

Jack totally has a posse.

He sat and munched his popcorn like a good little birthday boy.

It was an awesome long weekend...and the perfect way to celebrate my buddy... and some nice weather, finally!

The day Brett and I get to celebrate the best thing that ever happened to us.

2 Years.

How can that be?

I honestly don't know how it's possible...but I just might love this little squirt even more this year!

Every day he gives us something new to love about him- even the way he throws tantrums makes us giggle (mostly).

What a perfect little buddy he makes.

My thumb sucking, blanket loving, non-eating, active, happy, smart, hilarious, utterly lovable little boy.

Not baby anymore.

But, boy.

And I just love every square inch of him.

We were lucky enough to snag our ultra-talented brother-in-law Adam to take some 2-year pictures of Jack and our little family last week.

Let me just say...we had plenty to choose from! He took 495 pictures (no kidding!), and even when taking out blurs, closed eyes, and double chins...were left with over 200 that we liked!

He did an amazing job...and I'm still not sure how he managed to get so many of Jack with him running around like he was (or Brett for that matter)! I may have to wallpaper my house with all of the darling pictures he got!

Let's see if I can go from 495... to 200... to 20 in order to give you a glimpse of our results without overheating blogger!

Ok...so maybe it was 22.

You can't believe how many others there are!

Mrs. Jones is Checking Out

Well...the time has come.

The past 6 years of my life of being called Mrs. Jones are now over, and it is time for me to move on from this place...

Not only did I attend Highland Elementary during my entire elementary experience, I also worked there as a secretary/aide for a year, and then as a teacher for five.

I taught 1st grade for 3 years, and have taught over 400 students from kindergarten to 6th grade over the last 2 years as a specialist.

I have spent 13 years of my life as a Highland Hawk...and I have to be honest...walking out those doors on Friday will be leave a bit of a lump in my throat.

I am so incredibly lucky that I get to stay home with Jack, and it really is time to go, for now. Although the past while I have only been working part-time anyway... it is time for a clean cut and different season of my life...and I'm happy for that.

....

So much of my identity for the past 6 years had been as Mrs. Jones, and I will cherish the memories I have of being in the classroom. I will always remember my early years of teaching with absolute fondness.

I highly doubt my teaching days are entirely through--

but...here's to remembering my first years...through early marriage to pregnancy.

This was my very first classroom.

I did just about all I could do to turn a nasty room in a trailer into a pleasant home for myself (seeing as I was there about 18 hours a day!)

Into my 2nd year, I was moved into the new addition of our school and my smelly room was upgraded to a brand new room!

I cant tell you how many of these awesome faculty pictures (and faculty shirts) I have laying around from every year. I have been so lucky to rub shoulders with these people during my years at Highland. Some of my fellow co-workers were even my teachers at Highland...which never stopped feeling weird!

Apparently, I was too busy chasing these little 6 year old rats around to catch many pictures...but, take my word for it...it was every bit as rewarding as hard work...and I will never ever forget it!

Here's a quick Jones Rundown:

I'm pretty sure in the last month, Jack has grown up at least a year.

....

My lack of quality photos has something to do with the fact that I'm too lazy to get my camera and end up taking the majority of my pictures with my phone...

AND

Even with a good camera...most pictures of Jack end up like this:

because he is one fast little monkey these days.

However, it is not difficult to catch Jack looking adorable.

Jack is still quite fond of his blankie.

He really is a great combo of crazy and really really sweet.

He is totally going through a phase of obsession with dogs and went for a spell insisting on wearing his Halloween puppy costume at all sorts of random times.

Jack loves to be a total nut and get a laugh from anyone who will watch.

He is by far the most suave (almost) 2 year old at church....

I finish up teaching in the next couple of weeks, have been doing my Oilo blog writing, and was super lucky to find out yesterday that I have shingles.

No...not the kind on a roof.

(We've had those for some time now.)

I'm talking shingles...like the awful kind that cause the worst nerve pain that you can imagine and bring a lovely rash to go along with it.

For like 10 days!

Yes...those shingles.

Dead sexy shingles.

I know you're thinking that shingles are an old person's disease...

and I'll let you go on thinking that...

you should just feel (really) sorry for me while you're at it.

I was asked to do the blog writing for a baby bedding/decorating company called Oilo.
